Walk-in closets in luxury residences have become architectural projects in their own right. The three Italian brands that dominate the segment, Poliform, Molteni&C and Rimadesio, each take a distinct approach. Solomia Home, recognised as a top modern interior design company with awards in Dubai, specifies all three depending on the project. This article compares them across construction, finishes, lead times and where each fits.

The three brands

Poliform

Founded 1942 in Inverigo. Walk-in closet systems run under the Senzafine and Ubik names. Poliform also runs the Varenna kitchen line. Strong residential focus, broad UAE distribution.

Molteni&C

Established 1934 in Giussano. Walk-in systems sit under the Pass-Word, Gliss Master and 7Volte names. Molteni holds the Gio Ponti archive, relevant for collectors who want continuity with the marque’s mid-century work.

Rimadesio

Founded 1956 in Desio. Specialist in glass and aluminium, sliding doors, partitions and walk-in systems. Most recognisable for the Cover, Velaria and Zenit collections.

Construction logic compared

Poliform Senzafine uses panel-and-frame construction with a wide finish range, wood veneers, lacquer, leather inserts, integrated lighting. Drawer fronts are typically wood or lacquer.

Molteni Pass-Word uses a structural side-panel system with bridges between modules. Aluminium and wood are equally available; backs can be glass or fabric.

Rimadesio Cover centres on aluminium frames with glass fronts, opaque, transparent or back-painted. Closes with the brand’s signature aluminium-and-leather handles.

Finishes and materials

All three offer fumé eucalyptus, smoked oak, walnut and a wide painted-finish range. Rimadesio’s edge is in glass, Pop, Lacca Lucida (high-gloss lacquer applied to glass), and back-painted glass that maintains finish stability under UAE humidity. Poliform leads on leather inserts (drawer fronts, hanging-rail wraps). Molteni offers the largest selection of bronze and brass detailing.

Lighting integration

Modern systems integrate LED lighting in three places: under shelves, behind hanging rails, and inside drawers (often motion-activated). All three brands offer this; Poliform and Molteni typically wire to a central driver, Rimadesio has more options for individually-driven LED panels.

Lead times

Poliform: 14–20 weeks for stock-finish, 18–24 weeks for bespoke.

Molteni: 16–22 weeks for stock-finish, 20–26 weeks for bespoke.

Rimadesio: 16–22 weeks. Glass elements add 2–4 weeks.

All three require Italian-trained installers for warranty validity. Local sub-contracting is not authorised.

Where each fits

Poliform Senzafine, best for projects with mixed materials (wood + lacquer + leather), typical floor area 12–30 m².

Molteni Pass-Word, best for very large closets (40 m²+) or where the system needs to integrate with other Molteni furniture (D.235.1 or D.555.1 from the Gio Ponti archive).

Rimadesio Cover, best where the closet is visible from a master bedroom and needs to read as a glass-and-aluminium architectural element rather than a furniture cluster.

Pricing logic

For a 16 m² walk-in fully fitted out, Poliform Senzafine is typically the most accessible, Molteni Pass-Word the middle, and Rimadesio Cover the most premium per square metre. Real costs depend heavily on finish selection, leather drawer fronts and bronze handles add meaningful percentages. As an experienced interior design company in Dubai, Solomia Home presents costed comparisons across all three before final selection.

Selecting between Poliform, Molteni, and Rimadesio

The right system is determined by the project, not brand loyalty. A serious specification names the system, the finish, the lighting integration, and the handle programme, anything less leaves room for substitution.
